What is a Window Air Conditioner and how does it works?

An air conditioner or AC, as we all know is normally used for removing the heat and moisture of an enclosed space to provide us with a cool and comfortable surrounding against a hotter climate outside.  Generally, air conditioners are of four types such as window AC, Split AC, Ductless Mini-split systems, and central air conditioner. Out of these four types of air conditioners, the window AC remains the most commonly used and found in every nook and corner of the world. This is due to its simplicity in functioning. Issues solved by window AC repairing professionals are also subtle in the market because they don’t have a complex mechanism and work most smoothly among others.

Windows air conditioners are mounted on windows or walls by making a hole in them. All of the parts of this AC are included inside a casing. The entire system of a window air conditioner can be divided into two parts: the front side that is used for cooling the enclosed room and the outside part where the absorbed heat and moisture from the room is released into the atmosphere. Initially, the air conditioners like all the other electronic appliances at our home were working by manually controlled buttons on the AC itself. But in today’s modern world we have touch screen remotes and various other features that have been enhanced in a window AC over time. With the growth in quality of ACs choosing the best electrical contractor in Bangalore has also become very difficult.

How does a Window AC work?

The most interesting part about any device is its mechanism and the working of a window AC is something that should be known to all. The working mechanism of a Window AC revolves around two major cycles: the Room air cycle and the Hot air cycle. Let’s discuss each of these procedures one by one.

The Room Air Cycle – The first and foremost thing that a Windows AC is getting the air moving in a closed space. When you switch on your AC, the blower starts up, followed by the compressor. The cooling coil, which is located in the front of the AC, starts to drop the temperature as soon as the compressor starts. The blower acts as a separator of air particles that are loaded with dust particles and sends it out through the air filter. When the air goes through the cooling coil, the coil absorbs the heat and the cold air particles are forwarded back into the room, resulting in chilling air. Simultaneously, as the temperature lowers it becomes less than the dew point and when air goes to the coils it forms dew drops, removing relative humidity and moisture in the air.

The Hot Air Cycle – Another equivalent cycle continues along with the room air cycle and that is the hot air cycle. The primary focus of this cycle is to cool the condenser using atmospheric air. The condenser is located outside the room and exposed to the external atmosphere. The propeller fan of the condenser sucks in high-temperature air from the atmosphere and blows it over the condenser. The condenser has refrigerant at a higher temperature which needs to be cooled before it offers to cool. The temperature rises even higher once the hot condenser absorbs atmospheric air. After it cools down the refrigerant first enters into the expansion valve and then the cooling coil. The atmospheric air gets absorbed and the hot air is mixed up with the atmosphere, continuing the cycle.

These cycles functioning together results in the cool air supply that we get at our homes and offices. But even the simplest machines can malfunction. What can you do about it?
